Bituprimer : IS-3384
Bitumen Primer is a bitumen based primer for the surface conditioning of concrete and timber substrates prior to the application of heat fused APP and SBS modified bitumen membranes such as UniTorch.
Features
- Versatile bituminous primer for porous and non-porous surfaces
- Used on concrete, metal and timber surfaces
- Economical and easy to apply
Application
Bitumen Primer may be applied with brush or roller. The applied film must be allowed to dry before being overlayed with any waterproofing treatment so as to avoid solvent entrapment.
Surface Preparation
As with all surface coatings, good preparation is of paramount importance to the success and longlife of the system.
- Ensure that the surface to be treated is dry and sound, free of loose, dusting or flaking particles and free from contaminants such as grease and fungus.
- Defects such as cracks, broken mortar joints, etc. are to be repaired prior to primer application.
Cable Compound
Cable jointing boxes and bus bars are to be filled with a suitable insulating material. Bitumen base filling compounds are ideal materials for cable jointing boxes, filling, impregnating and manufacture of insulating tapes.
The compound has highest degree of electrical insulation. When heated it can be poured and once it cools, it forms into a hard mass. The compound has low water vapours permeability, it is insoluble in water and subsoil chemicals. Hence it gives a high performance for electrical application as it offers resistance to weathering and to chemical reactions. The compound remains stable and it neither froths nor emits excessive fumes when heated to a temperature of 80°C above the softening point. Wherever the compound is used, the life is prolonged of metals like copper, brass, iron, lead or aluminium, zinc, galvanized steel and their alloys, because of the protective nature of compound.

Uses
- As insulator for filing cable jointing boxes of both electricity and telecommunication, even if they are operating at high temperatures
- As a protector from moisture, water and other environmental chemicals so as to avoid failure in the system and hazards to human life
- As impregnating material for manufacture of insulation tapes.
